  • Keep farmer incomes stable so they can continue farming.
  • Encourage farmers to adopt modern, innovative farming methods.
  • Support crop diversification and farmer creditworthiness, and boost the agriculture sector’s growth, competitiveness, and protection against production risks.

Benefits

Benefits Provided

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) provides the following benefits to eligible applicants:

🌾

Affordable Premiums:

Farmers pay at most 2% for Kharif food and oilseed crops, 1.5% for Rabi food and oilseeds, and 5% for annual commercial or horticultural crops; the government subsidises the rest.

✅

In the North-Eastern States, Jammu, Kashmir, and Himachal…

In the North-Eastern States, Jammu, Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, the government covers the entire premium.

🏥

Comprehensive Coverage:

Covers natural disasters (droughts, floods), pests, and diseases, plus post-harvest losses caused by local risks such as hailstorms and landslides.- Timely Compensation: Claims are processed within two months of harvest so farmers get paid quickly and avoid falling into debt.- Technology-Driven Implementation: Satellite imagery, drones, and mobile apps help estimate crop loss precisely and settle claims accurately. RISKS COVERED

🏥

Yield Losses (Standing Crops):

Covers non-preventable risks affecting standing crops — natural fire and lightning; storms, hailstorms, tornadoes; floods, inundation, and landslides; pests and diseases; and drought.- Prevented Sowing: If unfavourable weather stops most insured farmers in a notified area from sowing or planting after they've already spent money preparing to do so, they can claim indemnity of up to 25% of the sum insured.- Post-harvest Losses: Covered on an individual-farm basis for up to 14 days after harvest, for crops left to dry in "cut and spread" condition in the field — meaning farmers are covered if cyclones or cyclonic rain destroy crops during this sun-drying stage.- Localised Calamities: Covered on an individual-farm basis for losses from localised hazards — hailstorms, landslides, and inundation — affecting scattered farmlands within a notified area.

Benefit amounts and conditions may vary by category — refer to the official scheme guidelines for exact figures applicable to your case.
