Institutional Support for Development and Marketing of Tribal Products/Produce

Quick Summary: This Ministry of Tribal Affairs scheme funds bodies like TRIFED and state tribal cooperatives to develop, market, and add value to tribal produce, covering everything from fair pricing and procurement to warehousing and branding. It merges two earlier schemes into a single institutional support mechanism launched in 2014-15.

About Institutional Support for Development and Marketing of Tribal Products/Produce

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, introduced “Institutional Support for Development and Marketing of Tribal Products/Produce” in 2014-15 by combining and revising two earlier schemes — “Market Development of Tribal Products/Produce” and “Grant-in-Aid to State Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation for Minor Forest Produce Operation.” The Scope:

  • Offer end-to-end support to tribal communities across production, product development, and protection of traditional heritage; support both forest and agricultural produce of tribal people; back the institutions carrying out these activities; improve infrastructure; develop designs; share price and buyer information; and help government agencies market products sustainably at fair prices.
  • Share information with Gram Panchayats and Gram Sabhas.
  • Upgrade skills and develop utilitarian products to boost market value.
