Cancer Suraksha Scheme
About Cancer Suraksha Scheme
On 1st November 2008, the Government of Kerala introduced the “Cancer Suraksha Scheme” to help children below the age of 18 who have cancer and come from families too poor to pay for treatment. It operates under the Kerala Social Security Mission. Patients who qualify are enrolled and given a Patient Card, after which they are treated free of cost at designated hospitals. Should later checks reveal that a registered patient does not qualify, the assistance is discontinued immediately. Cancer was once regarded as an incurable killer, but progress in medical science has largely overcome it, and there is scientific evidence that childhood cancers can mostly be cured when treated early. Seeing how urgently poor families needed financial help to treat cancer victims, the Government of Kerala started this scheme. Funds have already been placed with hospital superintendents so that treatment is cashless, meaning eligible patients get the benefit straight from these hospitals without having to go to the Mission. Hospitals Covered under the Scheme:
1. Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram 1. Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram 1. Sree AvitamThirunal (SAT) Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram 1. Government Medical College Alapuzha 1.
