About Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan
Launched on 9th June 2016 by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan sets out to give every pregnant woman in her 2nd and 3rd trimester assured, comprehensive, quality antenatal care on a fixed day — the 9th of each month — tackling the pressing need for standardised maternal healthcare and helping bring down maternal and infant mortality nationwide. Every pregnant woman gets this free antenatal care on the 9th of every month, built around a minimum package of services delivered by Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists, Radiologists, and Physicians at government health facilities. To take part, a woman must be in her 2nd or 3rd trimester and willing to visit a designated government health facility on that fixed monthly date. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare runs the scheme through the National Health Mission at state and district level, and applications can be made either online via the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan portal or offline at designated government health facilities.
