lodging expenses, on top of the scholarship paid under this scheme. Income Criteria: Students whose parents'/guardians' combined income from all sources does not exceed ₹ 2,00,000/- per annum receive the scholarship. NOTE 1: As long as either parent (or the husband, for a married but unemployed girl student) is alive, only that parent's/husband's income from all sources counts — not any other family member's, even if they earn. The income declaration form must reflect this basis. Only once both parents (or the husband, in the same scenario) have passed away does the supporting guardian's income get considered. Students whose parental income drops within the prescribed ceiling because of the unfortunate death of an earning parent become eligible from the month that event occurs, provided they meet the other conditions; such applications may be considered on compassionate grounds even after the application deadline has passed. NOTE 2: House rent allowance received by a student's parents is excluded from the income calculation if it is already exempt for income-tax purposes. NOTE 3: An income certificate is needed only once — at the time of admission — for courses running more than one year. NOTE 4: The revised income ceilings reflect the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers up to October 2009. The ceiling gets revised every two years, linked to the October Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers of the preceding year, effective from April.

Applicants must meet all of the above conditions to be considered eligible for this scheme.
