Upload the required documents and submit. (Note: Application processes may differ across States/UTs; eligible students should check and apply on the IT Portal of their concerned State or Union Territory to access the scholarship benefits.) Selection of Candidates: All eligible OBC/EBC/DNT candidates will receive scholarships subject to meeting the Scheme's eligibility conditions. Candidates belonging to one State but studying in another will be awarded scholarships by, and submit applications to, the competent authorities of the State to which they belong, and will be treated as studying in their own State for purposes of fee exemption or other concessions. Timelines for the Scheme:
Opening of Portal for registration by students: 1st April
Closing of Portal for registration: 30th June
Completion of verification by institutions: 31st July
Verification by the State Government: 15th August
Release of Central Assistance into the SNA, based on data uploaded to the central portal: 31st August
Payment of scholarships by the State Government via the DBT process (by): 30th September Process for Issuing the Freeship Card:
All eligible students may take admission at institutions without prepaying tuition and hostel fees, per the Scheme Guidelines; a FREESHIP CARD is issued by the State Government to enable this.
Well ahead of the expected admission date, the student must register for the Freeship Card on the relevant scholarship portal, providing details such as their Aadhaar number, the course they intend to join (e.g. MBBS, B.Sc., Class XI, etc.), and an undertaking that the institution's charges will be paid within 7 working days of the scholarship amount reaching their account. The portals for Freeship Card registration remain open all year.
Income, caste, and merit details should ideally be verified automatically through linked online databases, making the process fully paperless; until that system is operational, scanned documents may be uploaded, including a passport-size photograph, copies of certificates for all examinations passed (diploma, degree, etc.), a Caste certificate signed by the authorized officer, and a valid Income certificate issued by the competent authority as prescribed by the State Government.
Once a student registers on the Portal and is found eligible, all States/UTs must complete verification within 30 days of receiving the registration request and issue the Freeship Card through the IT portal, naming the course applied for, so eligible students aren't denied admission due to delayed tuition fee payment. Students should be able to download the Freeship Card directly from the portal, and once full digitization of the required certificates is achieved, the card will be generated automatically and immediately upon registration for eligible students.
The Freeship Card will carry the details listed in Annexure-1 and will be digitally signed; for admission purposes, it stays valid for one year from its date of issue.
A student wishing to change course before taking admission may do so by logging into the IT portal, and a fresh Freeship Card will be issued automatically for all eligible students.
Renewal students need not register afresh for the Freeship Card — once issued, the card stays valid for the entire duration of the course.

Ensure all required documents are ready before starting the application process.
