About PM-Special Training of Geriatric Caregivers

The “PM-Special Training of Geriatric Caregivers” scheme was rolled out by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. It aims to close the gap between the supply of and rising demand for geriatric caregivers, deliver more professional services to senior citizens, and build a cadre of trained caregiving professionals in geriatric care. The scheme trains candidates for four specific job roles — Geriatric Caregiver (Institutional & Home Care), Elderly Caretaker (Non-Clinical), Elderly Care Companion, and Wellness Therapist for Elderly — with an emphasis on the elderly’s physical, mental, and overall well-being through a multi-disciplinary approach that includes on-job training for specific courses. The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment implements it with support from the National Institute of Social Defence, and applications are accepted via registration on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH).
