Merit Cum Means Linked Financial Assistance Scheme
About Merit Cum Means Linked Financial Assistance Scheme
Detailed The Delhi Government wishes to widen access to good-quality higher education for meritorious students from economically disadvantaged sections. Many such students struggle to pay the full tuition fee, a problem that better-off sections of society do not face. To lighten their load, the Delhi Govt. proposes the Merit cum Means Linked Financial Assistance Scheme, under which tuition fees are reimbursed through the Delhi Higher Education Aid Trust, so that more meritorious students from economically disadvantaged sections can reach high-quality higher education. Students from this group who find the full tuition fee hard to afford stand to gain greatly from the Scheme.
The Scheme gives financial help to meritorious and needy students in higher education in the NCT of Delhi. Through the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE), GNCTD, the Delhi Higher Education Trust will reimburse, wholly or partly, the tuition fee the students have paid. Reimbursement will be made as follows: (i) 100% of the tuition fee for meritorious students from the economically weaker section, that is, wards of parent/s who are beneficiaries holding the relevant cards issued under the National Food Security Scheme. (ii) 50% of the tuition fee for meritorious students whose annual family income is up to ₹2.50 Lakh and who are not covered under the National Food Security Scheme. (iii) 25% of the tuition fee for meritorious students whose annual income is above ₹2.50 Lakh but below ₹6 Lakh. The Scheme is expected to bring meritorious students from economically weaker sections into quality higher education that financial constraints had kept from them so far. It should also draw meritorious students to Delhi State Universities.
