Marriage Assistance To Daughters Of Prisoners
About Marriage Assistance To Daughters Of Prisoners
The Department of Social Justice, Government of Kerala, introduced “Marriage Assistance to Daughters of Prisoners” to help with the wedding costs of daughters whose parent has been in prison for over 2 years. Each person can get up to ₹30,000/-, and in the scheme’s first phase as many as 20 such families will receive help. When someone is convicted and jailed, the family left behind often faces financial insecurity, poverty, debt and the risk of losing its home, besides being stigmatised and pushed to the margins of society. Strained finances make it hard for such families to educate their children properly or to arrange their daughters’ marriages, which is why the Government of Kerala brought in this scheme to uplift them.
