In 1998, the Director of Scheduled Caste Welfare, Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of Gujarat, introduced the “Mai Ramabai Ambedakar Saat Phera Samuh Lagna Yojana”. Couples who marry at group weddings get an incentive, and so does the institution that organises the event. Choosing group marriages lets families avoid the needless costs of separate weddings and helps them build up their finances.
