About Livestock Health and Diseases Control
Objectives The scheme runs a Critical Animal Disease Control Programme to eliminate PPR by 2030 through vaccinating the entire sheep and goat population, and to bring Classical Swine Fever (CSF) under control by vaccinating all pigs. It also delivers veterinary services at farmers’ doorsteps via Mobile Veterinary Units (MVUs), and supports States/UTs, under Assistance to States for Control of Animal Disease (ASCAD), in preventing and controlling significant livestock and poultry diseases according to each State/UT’s own priorities.
The LH&DC scheme takes in the following activities:
- Preventive vaccination drives against various livestock and poultry diseases.
- Surveillance for early disease detection.
- Controlling and eradicating livestock diseases.
- Building the capacity of veterinary staff.
- Upgrading veterinary infrastructure.

Scheme Implementation Strategy
