Goa (Subsidy to Clay Idol Makers) Scheme
About Goa (Subsidy to Clay Idol Makers) Scheme
Introduced by the Department of Industries, Government of Goa, the “Goa (Subsidy to Clay Idol Makers) Scheme” seeks to revitalise clay idol making, a traditional Goan cottage industry, and to encourage local artisans with subsidy-based financial help. It responds to the art’s decline in the face of cheaper substitutes like Plaster of Paris and polyfibre. Artisans get ₹100/- for each idol, up to ₹15,000/- per artisan every year. Eligible applicants are traditional clay idol makers registered with the Goa Handicrafts, Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (GHRSSIDC) who make their idols inside Goa. GHRSSIDC implements the scheme, and applications are taken offline.
