Coaching Schemes For Sc/st/obc (non-creamy Layer) & Minority Students For Universities
About Coaching Schemes For Sc/st/obc (non-creamy Layer) & Minority Students For Universities
Coaching schemes aimed at SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), and minority-community students exist to level the playing field and back them through higher education, closing academic gaps and sharpening their competitiveness. The Commission has separately funded universities for –
- Remedial coaching at the UG and PG levels.
- Coaching aimed at entry into services.
- NET coaching for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Minority candidates.
This scheme has since been folded into the universities’ General Developmental Assistance scheme, with funding for this component sitting above the General Developmental Assistance ceiling.
Objective Of The Scheme I. REMEDIAL COACHING FOR SC/ST/OBC (NON-CREAMY LAYER) & MINORITY COMMUNITY STUDENTS Remedial Coaching, run at the UG and/or PG level, aims to:
- Sharpen students’ academic skills and language proficiency across subjects.
- Deepen their grasp of foundational subjects so they have a firmer base for further study.
- Build up their knowledge, skills, and attitude in subjects involving quantitative/qualitative techniques and lab work, so the guidance and training they get lifts them to the level needed for higher study and cuts down failure and dropout.
- Offer career guidance and psychological counselling to students who need it, as part of capacity building.
II. COACHING CLASSES FOR ENTRY INTO SERVICES FOR SC/ST/OBC (NON-CREAMY LAYER) AND MINORITY COMMUNITY STUDENTS This coaching aims to:
- Ready students for meaningful employment in Group ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ Central and State services, or equivalent private-sector roles.
- Orient them toward specific competitive exams such as IAS, State Public Service exams, or bank recruitment.
- Zero in on what a particular competitive exam demands; universities may also set up an Employment Information Cell covering various competitive exams within their operating area.
III. COACHING FOR NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST OR STATE ELIGIBILITY TEST FOR SC/ST/OBC (NON-CREAMY LAYER) & MINORITY COMMUNITY STUDENTS This component readies Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Minority Community candidates to sit the NET or SET, ensuring enough qualified candidates come through for Lecturer positions in the university system.
