About Free Coaching for SCs, OBCs and beneficiaries of PM CARES Children Scheme

The “Scheme of Free Coaching for SCs, OBCs and beneficiaries of PM CARES Children Scheme” is run by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It provides quality coaching to economically disadvantaged Scheduled Caste (SC) and Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates so they can compete in exams for Public/Private Sector jobs and/or admission to reputed technical and professional higher-education institutions. The Ministry implements it with support from the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF), through Central Universities empanelled for the scheme.

Category-wise Ratio of Candidates

1. 3,500 students are selected under the scheme each year. 1. Maximum Limit:

  • Each Central University may admit up to 100 students (excluding PM CARES beneficiaries).

1. Category-Wise Ratio:

  • The SC:OBC ratio must stay at 70:30.

1. Minimum SC Representation:

  • SC students must make up at least 70% of the intake.
  • If enough SC candidates aren’t available, the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) may relax this ratio.
  • Even so, SC representation can never drop below 50%.

1. Reservation for Female Candidates:

  • 30% of slots in each category (SC and OBC) are reserved for female candidates.

1. Relaxation for Female Quota:

  • Where enough female candidates aren’t available in a category, male candidates from that category fill the reserved slots instead.

1. Central Universities must admit every willing, eligible PM CARES Children Scheme beneficiary, even beyond the 100-slot cap.
