Cluster Development Scheme

Gujarat
Quick Summary: Gujarat's Cluster Development Scheme helps clusters of 25 or more handloom and handicraft artisans with diagnostic surveys, design, training, common facility centres, margin money and marketing support to raise productivity.

About Cluster Development Scheme

Introduced in 2003-04 by the Industries & Mines Department, Government of Gujarat, the “Cluster Development Scheme” boosts the productivity and competitiveness of handloom and handicraft artisans through a cluster-based development model. It tackles problems common to Micro and Small Enterprises, such as upgrading technology, skills and quality and improving access to markets and capital. Clusters of at least 25 artisans working and producing at a single location can get help such as a Diagnostic Survey, design Development, Training, a Common Facility Centre, margin money, managerial subsidy, publicity, export support and Marketing Facility. Applicants must belong to a cluster of at least 25 artisans and be engaged in handloom and handicraft work in Gujarat state. Implementation is handled by Boards and Corporations under the Cottage Commissionerate and by reputed institutions like the National Institute of Design and the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
