About Chief Minister’s Free Diagnostic Services
Doctors depend on accurate diagnosis to decide on the right treatment, yet the reach and availability of good Radiology and Laboratory Services have long been a weak point of the health system. Patients are spending more and more out of pocket on diagnostic tests, which now make up the second-biggest share of such spending after medicines. Offering reliable diagnostic services (laboratory and radiology) at public health facilities is therefore essential for evidence-based treatment and for lowering costs.
In response, the Chief Minister’s Free Diagnostics Services Programme was designed to make sure that a basic set of diagnostic services is on offer at government health institutions. Under the Chief Minister’s Free Diagnostic Services Programme, CT Scan, X-Ray and Laboratory services are given free to every patient at Govt. Health Institutions in the State of Assam, whether they are APL or BPL.
