About Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme
Started on 23rd July 2009 under the earlier name Kalaingar Kaappittu Thittam, the Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme offers good-quality treatment to eligible people through empanelled government and private hospitals. By working closely with the public health system, it eases the financial strain on enrolled families and moves the state towards universal health coverage.
United India Insurance Company is running the scheme for the period January 2022 to 2027. As of January 2022, roughly 1.37 crore families are covered. CMCHIS includes 1090 procedures, 8 follow-up procedures and 52 diagnostic procedures, available across 800 government and 900 private empanelled hospitals.
The scheme offers cashless hospital treatment for listed illnesses and procedures, with cover of up to Rs. 5,00,000/- per family, per year on a floater basis. CMCHIS is an important measure that lets vulnerable groups get proper health care without falling into financial hardship, while widening access to good medical treatment.
