Khushi Scheme
About Khushi Scheme
“Khushi” is a scheme brought in by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, to give free sanitary napkins to every girl studying in Classes 6th to 12th in Government and aided schools. Named after the Odia word for “Happiness”, Khushi is the state’s female health and hygiene programme that hands out free sanitary pads to girl students in Odisha and seeks to ensure good menstrual hygiene care for women across the state. By improving health and hygiene among adolescent schoolgirls, it aims to keep more of them in school and to strengthen women’s empowerment. Alongside free pads for girls in government and government-aided schools, rural women can buy sanitary napkins at subsidised rates. The scheme targets fewer dropouts among girls, better academic results, and greater empowerment of women, and it is implemented by the Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited. Objectives
1. Promote Menstrual Hygiene: Spread awareness of menstrual hygiene and make sanitary products available. 1. Reduce School Dropout Rates: Cut absenteeism and dropouts among adolescent girls by making sure they can get menstrual hygiene products. 1. Economic Empowerment: Give women and girls economic opportunities by encouraging the local manufacture and distribution of sanitary products.
