About Financial Grants In Aid To SC/ST Patients Suffering From Cancer And Other Malignant Diseases

According to the 2011 Census, Scheduled Castes make up 7.15% and Scheduled Tribes 12.44% of Assam’s total population, and both groups are socio-economically backward. The Constitution contains special provisions for the welfare of SC / ST people across every aspect of life. Many SC/ST people with cancer and other malignant diseases cannot continue their treatment because of financial hardship, and the Government has therefore chosen to offer them some relief through financial assistance in the form of grants in Aid. The scheme seeks to give grants in Aid to SC/ST patients with cancer and other malignant diseases who, owing to the socio-economic conditions in their community, cannot pay for advanced treatment. Each such patient receives a one-time, fixed financial assistance of ₹ 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty thousand) only.
