Scheme Of Assistance To Disabled Persons For Purchase/Fitting Of Aids/Appliances
About Scheme Of Assistance To Disabled Persons For Purchase/Fitting Of Aids/Appliances
Launched on 1st January 1981 by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the “Scheme of Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids/Appliances” (ADIP Scheme) helps disabled persons obtain suitable, durable, scientifically designed, modern, standard aids and appliances that support their physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation — reducing the impact of their disability and boosting their economic potential. These assistive devices aim to help PwDs function more independently while limiting the disability’s progression and preventing secondary disabilities. The scheme also covers medical/surgical correction and intervention where necessary before fitting aids and appliances. Costs range from ₹500/- for hearing and speech impairment to ₹1,000/- for visual disability and ₹3,000/- for orthopaedic disability. The scheme has been approved to continue until 31st March 2026.
Objective – The scheme’s central aim is to help needy disabled persons obtain durable, sophisticated, scientifically manufactured, modern, standard aids and appliances that support their physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation, lessening the effects of disability and improving their economic potential.
Scope – Implementing Agencies carry out the scheme, receiving financial assistance to purchase, fabricate, and distribute standard aids and appliances aligned with the scheme’s objectives. These agencies also arrange fitting and post-fitting care for the distributed devices. The scheme’s scope now also extends to using mass media, exhibitions, and workshops to spread information and awareness about, and encourage the distribution and use of, aids and appliances.
