Scheme For Adolescent Girls
About Scheme For Adolescent Girls
Launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Scheme for Adolescent Girls builds a structured, life-cycle-based support system for adolescent girls, delivered through Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 via the States/Union Territories. It targets girls aged 14-18 years in identified areas, including Aspirational Districts and North-Eastern States, with services routed through existing Anganwadi Centres and other linked platforms. > Objectives:
- To improve the nutritional and health status, and self-development, of girls aged 14-18.
- To connect adolescent girls with education, life skills, and literacy/numeracy through non-formal education, sparking a desire for wider social exposure and knowledge, and sharpening their decision-making abilities.
- To train adolescent girls in other essential life skills.
- To spread awareness of health, hygiene, nutrition, family welfare, home management, and child care, encouraging marriage only after age 18 or later where possible.
- To help girls better understand environment-related social issues and how these affect their lives.
- To motivate adolescent girls to take up activities that make them productive, useful members of society.
