About SERB International Research Experience
SERB International Research Experience (SIRE) is an initiative of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body functioning under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It gives researchers a chance to spend 2-6 months at leading global institutions and universities, gaining advanced training in frontier areas of Science and Technology that matter to India. Under SIRE, SERB identifies candidates working in cutting-edge S&T domains and funds their visits to top institutions abroad, ideally those where internationally recognized scientists are based. > Objectives:
- Build national capability in frontier S&T areas by giving SIRE fellows international R&D exposure.
- Channel the expertise SIRE fellows gain abroad into strengthening or launching national programmes in their domain.
- Promote research in priority areas that remain relatively unexplored within the Indian context.

Note 01: An endorsement letter, duly signed by the head of the applicant's employing organization/institute, must be submitted. Note 02: A letter from the host approving the research plan must also be submitted. Selection: Selection is made from among faculty whose research plans have been approved by the overseas host institution, with a selection committee constituted by the Board for this purpose. Note: Selected candidates must begin their research at the overseas institution within one month of the offer letter's date; failing this, the offer is automatically withdrawn and no further correspondence will be entertained.
