Pre-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste Students
About Pre-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste Students
Launched by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, the “Pre-Matric Scholarships to the Students Belonging to Scheduled Castes & Others with Component 1: Pre-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste Students” scheme gives parents of Scheduled Caste children financial support toward pre-matric education, lifts participation in schooling, cuts drop-outs especially around key transition stages, and widens the path to post-matric education. Scheduled Caste students in Classes IX and X receive a consolidated academic allowance under this scheme, which State Governments and Union Territory Administrations implement by awarding scholarships to eligible domiciled students. Eligible study is limited to Government schools and recognised private schools in India holding a valid UDISE code, and the scholarship amount reaches beneficiaries directly through Direct Benefit Transfer. Divyang students also receive an extra allowance on top of the regular amount. > Objective:
- To support, through financial assistance, parents of children belonging to Scheduled Castes for the education of their wards at the pre-matric stage.
- To improve the participation of Scheduled Caste students in education.
- To minimise the incidence of dropouts, especially during transition from primary to higher levels and from elementary to secondary education.
- To improve academic performance and increase opportunities for progression to post-matric education.
