Post Graduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders Scheme
About Post Graduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders Scheme
Under the Department of Higher Education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) created the “Post Graduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders” to reward undergraduate rank holders who choose to continue into postgraduate studies. It is meant to draw talented students toward higher education and lift academic standards at the PG level. First- and second-rank undergraduate holders who join a regular, full-time postgraduate degree programme at a recognized Indian institution qualify for this scholarship. > Objectives:
a) Nurturing talent. b) Rewarding meritorious undergraduate performers who go on to postgraduate study. c) Encouraging study in basic subjects — both General and Honours — at the undergraduate level, while professional courses remain outside the scheme’s scope. d) Raising academic standards at the postgraduate level across the country’s colleges and universities.

NOTE 1: The National Scholarships Portal itself announces when the portal opens and closes. NOTE 2: Online applications go through two rounds of verification — first by the institute where the student studies, then by the relevant State Higher Education Department or another State-nominated Agency/Official acting as State Nodal Agency (this applies to both fresh and renewal applicants). NOTE 3: A delay in renewal or verification will not permanently bar a student from the scholarship, but renewal applications must still be filed by the cut-off date — missing it means no renewal for that year.
