Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
Quick Summary: CITUS, under the Coir Vikas Yojana, gives coir producers and processors a 25% subsidy - up to Rs 2.50 crore - on new machinery and infrastructure to modernise units or set up new ones, with a focus on rural women's employment and new entrepreneurs. Both new units and those upgrading after 5 years of operation can apply, provided they haven't already used another Central subsidy for the same purpose.

About Coir Vikas Yojana- Coir Industry Technology Upgradation Scheme

Run under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, the Coir Industry Technology Upgradation Scheme (CITUS) forms part of the broader Coir Vikas Yojana and centres on modernising coir units – funding new machinery, infrastructure, and tech adoption to lift productivity and product quality. It also backs new coir-processing units, expansion into fresh territory, and smarter raw-material use, with a particular push toward creating jobs (especially for rural women) and drawing in new entrepreneurs. The scheme favours eco-friendly production and aims to make the coir industry sharper and more technology-led. The Coir Board implements it, drawing on technical support from specialised institutes.
