About Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for IT Hardware
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, introduced the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for IT Hardware to lift domestic manufacturing and draw large investment into the IT hardware sector. Eligible companies receive financial incentives for scaling up production of items such as laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, and servers, which in turn raises domestic value addition. A Project Management Agency (PMA) operating under MeitY runs the scheme, which is geared toward building India’s manufacturing capability, creating jobs, and cutting import dependence, while also linking Indian manufacturers into global supply chains and sharpening their competitiveness. Incentives are calculated on incremental sales measured against a base year, and both global and domestic companies are encouraged to set up or scale up manufacturing units in India.
