Laadli Laxmi Scheme

Goa
Quick Summary: Goa's Laadli Laxmi Scheme, run by the Department of Women & Child Development since 6th July 2012, gives eligible girls ₹ 1,00,000 to meet education and other needs. Unmarried beneficiaries get it as a fixed deposit, while married beneficiaries receive cash.

About Laadli Laxmi Scheme

Introduced on 6th July 2012, the Laadli Laxmi Scheme is among the flagship programmes of the Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Goa. It was started to counter the troubling practice of female foeticide and to change the common belief that a daughter is a burden on her parents/guardian at the time of her marriage. By giving the girl child financial strength to cover educational and other costs once she becomes a major, the scheme also seeks to improve the female sex ratio in the State.
