About ICAR Emeritus Professor
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, runs the “ICAR Emeritus Professor Scheme” to draw on the expertise of outstanding retired teachers and scientists from the National Agricultural Research and Education System (NARES). It lets these retired professionals continue teaching, training, guiding student research, and other academic work at agricultural universities and institutions, including developing instructional materials, textbooks, and e-learning resources for national agricultural education and distance learning programmes. The scheme addresses faculty shortages, strengthens agricultural education, and taps retired experts’ experience on nationally important academic and policy matters — while also encouraging them to contribute to higher agricultural education in economically and ecologically underserved regions.
