High Risk – High Reward Research
About High Risk – High Reward Research
The Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, runs “High Risk – High Reward Research” to back conceptually novel, risky proposals that could reshape S&T if they succeed — whether by formulating a new hypothesis or enabling scientific breakthroughs that lead to new technologies. > Nature of Proposals to be Supported:
The scheme backs proposals that are genuinely new, challenge existing hypotheses, and bring ‘out of the box’ thinking to important problems. Such proposals should carry real risk but promise a high payoff if the difficulties can be overcome, with success expected to have far-reaching S&T implications — new and significant theoretical or experimental advances, fresh hypotheses, or breakthrough science leading to new technologies. Proposals aimed only at ‘incremental’ knowledge gains will not be funded. Ideally, proposals should contain bold research ideas with wide-ranging impact and the potential for genuinely new scientific and technological innovation. > Duration of Support:
Funding normally runs for three years, extendable up to 5 years in exceptional cases as assessed by the expert committee.
