Financial Assistance for Education- Haryana Silicosis Board
About Financial Assistance for Education- Haryana Silicosis Board
The Haryana Labour Welfare Board, Government of Haryana, implements the “Financial Assistance for Education” scheme, which pays between ₹5,000/- and ₹12,000/- a year to children of workers whose silicosis has been confirmed by the Silicosis Diagnosis Board, Haryana. Children in any class from Class I up to a Master’s Degree are covered, for a maximum of two sons and three daughters of each affected worker, whatever their birth order. Note: Silicosis is a lung disease for which there is no cure, and it is common in workplaces like stone crushers and mines. Haryana treats it as a notifiable disease under the Factories Act, of 1948, and the Building and Other Construction Workers (RE & CS) Act, of 1996. After the Silicosis Diagnosis Board confirms a case, the worker is quickly sent to hospital: workers insured under the Employee State Insurance Act, 1948 are treated at ESI hospitals, and others receive free treatment from the Health Department at district hospitals and medical colleges, with reimbursement, arranged through the Labour Department, for necessary resources not available locally. Symptoms of Silicosis: • Commonly accompanied by T.B • Difficulty breathing • Exhaustion • Poor appetite (Anorexia). • Chest pain with a dry, non-productive cough (Whooping Cough). • Respiratory failure • Death in the final stage
