Under the Ayush Oushadhi Gunvatta evam Uttpadan Samvardhan Yojana, the Ministry of Ayush runs the ‘Pharmacovigilance of ASU&H Drugs Including Surveillance of Misleading Advertisements’ component to gather, compile, and scientifically analyse data establishing the clinical safety of ASU&H drugs, while also monitoring advertisements for these drugs and their systems of medicine.
This pharmacovigilance push is meant to:
- Build a habit of reporting among consumers and ASU&H practitioners, so Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) and misleading advertisements for Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy drugs get properly documented.
- Create a system-wise database of ADRs linked to ASU&H drugs.
- Develop evidence-based recommendations on drug safety and improper advertising that regulators can act on.

Application Process
Submission of Concept Note: The applicant institution sends a concept note and proposal to its Intermediary Pharmacovigilance Centre (IPvC).
Forwarding of Proposal: The proposal needs a recommendation from the head of the applicant institution before being forwarded.
Review by Intermediary Centre: The IPvC reviews the proposal and passes it, with comments, to the National Pharmacovigilance Co-ordination Centre (NPvCC).
Evaluation by NPvCC: The NPvCC checks the proposal's suitability and eligibility.
Approval by Project Sanctioning Committee: Once the Ministry of Ayush's Project Sanctioning Committee approves it, the institution becomes a Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centre.
Release of Funds: Financial assistance is paid out periodically, based on progress reports and audited expenditure statements.
