About Mangalya Scheme For Widow Remarriage

Launched by the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Kerala, the “Mangalya Scheme” gives eligible widows and divorced women financial help when they remarry. Women in Kerala outnumber men and also tend to live longer, which makes their marital status especially significant, since it can shape how much care and support they get from family and society. According to the statistics, widowers make up just 3.5% of Kerala’s male population, whereas widowed women account for 11.56% of the female population. This gap harms women in every area of life. Against this backdrop, the Government of Kerala devised ‘Mangalya’ to promote widow remarriage by giving financial assistance to widowed and divorced women who remarry.
