About Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards (Commercial)
The Tiatr Academy, under the Art, Culture and Museums Department, Government of Goa, introduced the “Lifetime Contribution to Tiatr Awards (Commercial)” to honour tiatr artistes whose earlier work did much to develop tiatr and its song and music, acknowledging a lifetime devoted to this traditional art. Awardees receive a shawl, memento, citation, and a cash award fixed by Tiatr Academy of Goa, and are felicitated at a special function held every year on 14th December, the Birth Anniversary of Joao Agostinho Fernandes, ‘The Father of Tiatr’. Nominees must be 60 years of age or older (relaxable on health grounds) and have contributed to tiatr for at least 20 years, meeting performance requirements specific to their role. Tiatr Academy of Goa implements the scheme, and nominations come through recommendations from individuals/institutions and advertisements in local newspapers.

*If the artiste is unwell, the 60-year age limit may be relaxed. Assessment Criteria Excellence as an actor, script writer, director, singer, lyricist, or set designer is weighed. Any awards earned in the field are looked at. Innovations brought to the tiatr stage are assessed. For singers/musicians, songs (kantaram) released on records, cassettes, CDs/DVDs or online are considered. Work in other-language dramas or in films, apart from tiatr, is evaluated. For script writers or lyricists, published books of scripts/lyrics are taken into account. Post-Selection Conditions Awardees have to come in person to accept the award.

The awardee is given a shawl, memento, citation, and a cash award whose amount is fixed by Tiatr Academy of Goa Special Recognition Ceremony: Honours are presented every 14th December at a special function marking the Birth Anniversary of Joao Agostinho Fernandes, 'The Father of Tiatr' Annual Limit: Each year, at most 5 artistes from the field receive the award Exclusivity: A person can be given this award only once in a lifetime, whether in Commercial/Non-Commercial Tiatr, Khell, Khell-Tiatr, or Konkani Cinema Personal presence of the selected artiste is mandatory to receive the award.

Nominations are received through recommendations by individuals/institutions and through advertisements in local newspapers, and the Executive Board may also nominate deserving artistes who are not on the recommended list.
