Krishak Bakri Palan Yojna

Himachal Pradesh
Quick Summary: Himachal Pradesh's Krishak Bakri Palan Yojna gives goat units of 3, 5 or 11 goats of improved breeds at a 60% subsidy to farmers and landless persons. It aims to raise rural incomes and meat production, with at least 30 percent of beneficiaries being women.

About Krishak Bakri Palan Yojna

The “Krishak Bakri Palan Yojna” of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Himachal Pradesh, seeks to widen earning opportunities for economically weaker sections and to raise meat production. In Himachal Pradesh, goat rearing is a traditional livelihood of these groups (small and marginal farmers, chiefly nomads and landless labourers), and the animal is a key source of their economic support. Because goats adapt to a broad range of agro-climatic conditions, they suit poor farmers well. The scheme proposes distributing units of 11 goats (10 females +1male), 5 goats (4 females +1 male) and 3 goats (2 females +1 male) of the Beetal/Sirohi/Jamanapari/White Himalayan breeds at a 60% subsidy. Objectives of this scheme:

1. Increase Income Generation: Open up more earning opportunities for economically weaker sections through goat rearing. 1. Boost Meat Production: Raise the state’s meat output by supplying high-quality goat breeds. 1. Support Economically Disadvantaged Families: Make it easier for poorer families to begin goat farming through a 60% subsidy on goat units. 1. Promote Rural Development: Add to the overall growth of rural Himachal Pradesh by encouraging goat farming. 1. Ensure Sustainable Livelihoods: Give small farmers and landless labourers a lasting livelihood that makes them less economically vulnerable.
