Grant In Aid Hostels
About Grant In Aid Hostels
Started in 1969 by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat, the “Grant In Aid Hostels” scheme arranges for government-registered organisations to run hostels offering boarding and lodging to tribal students in primary, secondary and higher secondary education. Free lodging and boarding is provided to tackle the lower literacy among the Scheduled Tribe population, which stems from the lack of secondary and higher secondary schools in tribal areas and leads students to drop out after primary school. Non-Governmental Organizations run the scheme, and applications are received at district level in the office of the concerned Project Administrator/Assistant Commissioner (Vigilance).
