How to Apply
Offline Application
Applicants can apply for Financial Assistance for Natural Disaster through the offline application process outlined below.
Application Process
When a disaster strikes, either on the Revenue Administration's own (suo motu) notice or on a report from an affected person, someone from the affected area, or a public representative, local revenue officials such as the Patwari, Kanungo or Tehsildar alert Disaster Department officials like the District Disaster Management Officer. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate or Tehsildar then has a field inquiry carried out through the Regional Revenue Sub-Inspector and other departments, assesses the damage, and starts action under the prescribed rules to give relief to the affected person or family.
To identify buildings that are completely damaged, a three-member committee is set up at the District Magistrate level, including the Block Development Officer (or a representative) and one Junior Engineer. It approves relief for every building judged completely damaged and unfit for people to live in, and sanctions the relief amount for the affected person or family.
Relief of up to ₹10,000/- is approved by the Tehsildar; amounts above ₹10,000/- but below ₹50,000/- by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate; and amounts above ₹50,000/- by the District Magistrate.
At present, disaster relief is handed out offline, although office-level approvals now happen online on the
Apuni Sarkar Portal
. After the District Magistrate approves, the sanctioned money passes through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to the Tehsildar and then to the relevant Patwari, and the Revenue Sub-Inspector (Patwari/Lekhpal) pays it to the affected person or family in that area.
Once the Sub-Divisional Magistrate or Tehsildar approves, the area's Revenue Sub-Inspector (Patwari/Lekhpal) delivers the assistance to the person or family affected by the calamity.
