About Swarnajayanti Fellowships Scheme
To mark India’s fiftieth year of Independence, the Government of India instituted the Swarnajayanti Fellowships Scheme, offering select young scientists with a proven track record special assistance to pursue basic research in the frontier areas of science and technology. Scientists chosen for the award can pursue research with considerable freedom and flexibility in spending, as approved in their research plan; the underlying project must carry innovative research ideas capable of impacting R&D in its discipline. Fellowships are awarded to individual scientists rather than institutions, are highly selective, and come with close academic monitoring. > Duration of Fellowship:
The fellowship runs for a period not exceeding five years.
