About Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen PHASE I
Launched in 2014 by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen (Phase I) set out to end open defecation across rural India through behavioural change alongside the construction of household and community toilets. It extended financial assistance and awareness efforts for toilet construction to poor, underprivileged and marginalised rural households. Objectives:
1. To drive mass-scale behaviour change around sanitation and hygiene 1. To ensure the construction and actual use of household-owned and community-owned toilets 1. To build an accountable mechanism for achieving an Open Defecation Free (ODF) India 1. To promote Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM)
