Pradhan Mantri Formalisation Of Micro Food Processing Enterprises
About Pradhan Mantri Formalisation Of Micro Food Processing Enterprises
Rolled out on 29th June 2020, PMFMPE is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, built to tackle the problems micro-enterprises face and to tap the potential of groups and cooperatives in helping these enterprises upgrade and become formal.
Aims:
1. Sharpen the competitiveness of individual micro-enterprises still operating informally in food processing, and push the sector toward formalisation; and 2. Back Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self Help Groups (SHGs), and Producers’ Cooperatives right along their value chain.
Objectives:
To build microenterprise capability so as to enable: 1. Better credit access for existing micro food processing entrepreneurs, FPOs, Self Help Groups, and Cooperatives. 2. Integration into an organised supply chain, through stronger branding and marketing. 3. Bringing 2,00,000 existing enterprises into a formal framework. 4. Wider access to shared services — common processing facilities, laboratories, storage, packaging, marketing, and incubation. 5. Stronger institutions, research, and training within food processing; and 6. Better access to professional and technical support for enterprises.
Outlay:
The scheme runs on an outlay of ₹10,000 crore spread across five years, from 2020-21 to 2024-25. Expenditure is split 60:40 between the Centre and States generally, 90:10 with the North-Eastern and Himalayan States, 60:40 with legislature UTs, and entirely funded by the Centre for other UTs.
Coverage:
The scheme directly helps 2,00,000 micro food processing units through credit-linked subsidies, while also building the supportive common infrastructure and institutional setup needed to grow the sector.
