Students become eligible for the scholarship and contingent grant from the date they join the course.
Procedure of Selection:
The scheme awards 240 scholarships each year, earmarked to individual Agricultural Universities in proportion to their actual number of admitted SC/ST candidates.
A tentative distribution across universities is first based on their SC/ST reserved seats.
The final allotment each year, however, follows actual SC/ST admissions, keeping the ratio of scholarships to admitted SC/ST students roughly equal across universities.
Payment of Scholarship
(a) Students become eligible for the scholarship and contingent grant from their date of joining the course.
(b) The Council remits the scholarship and contingent grant to institutions based on demand submitted through the University's Registrar/Comptroller in the prescribed proforma.
(c) Scholarship payment during medical leave follows these rules:
1. Full scholarship is paid for absences up to two months, supported by a medical certificate as prescribed by the university.
2. Half scholarship applies for absences beyond two but not exceeding four months — full rate for the first two months and half rate for the following two.
3. No scholarship is paid for absences beyond four months, though payment for the first four months follows sub-clauses (1) and (2) above.
4. Married women get full-rate scholarship for maternity absences up to three months; nothing is paid beyond three months.
5. In all cases (1) to (4), payment follows only if the Head of Institution recommends the application and certifies the scholar is likely to make up the lost study time.
These concessions under clauses (1) to (4) are available only once during the entire course.
(d) The scholarship generally continues year to year if the student's progress is satisfactory per University standards. If a student goes on academic probation, the scholarship for that period is paid at half rate — available only once during the course; a second probation period draws no scholarship at all.
