The Youth Hostel Scheme is run by the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The Central Government funds State Governments to construct and maintain youth hostels, while day-to-day operations remain the responsibility of the respective State Governments.

Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for Youth Hostel Scheme, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

1. There is no age limit to use a youth hostel, but applicants below 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during their stay.
