Scheme For Grant Of Rewards To The Children Of Salt Labourers
About Scheme For Grant Of Rewards To The Children Of Salt Labourers
Introduced in 1985 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the “Scheme for Grant of Rewards to the Children of Salt Labourers” originally offered 20 rewards a year to help salt workers’ children cover the initial cost — wholly or partly — of books, stationery, and similar essentials upon admission to recognized institutions for higher studies. Since 2011-12, this has grown to 3,500 rewards a year, with a financial outlay of ₹45.00 lakh. The scheme now provides ₹1,000/- for students in classes VI to VIII, ₹1,500/- for classes IX to X, and ₹2,000/- for classes XI to XII, with at least 50% of the awards in each state reserved for girls. Where a particular Salt Factory/State has no female students, that state’s reserved rewards can go to eligible male students from other categories within the same Salt Factory/State.
