Quick Summary: PMAY-U works toward pucca housing for eligible urban households across EWS, LIG, and MIG income brackets through components like interest-subsidised home loans. Central and state contributions per unit vary by region and housing category.

About Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban

Launched on 25th June 2015 by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs under the banner “Housing for All”, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) exists to get pucca houses to eligible urban households. The same Ministry implements it, targeting the urban housing shortage among EWS, LIG, and MIG households, as well as slum dwellers. Affordable, sustainable housing is promoted through components like the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), which subsidises interest on housing loans. The mission spans every statutory town and notified urban area under Census 2011, and Aadhaar is compulsory for every eligible beneficiary.
