One Nation One Ration Card
About One Nation One Ration Card
The “One Nation One Ration Card” (ONORC) was launched in 2018 by the Department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, as a nationwide ration card portability scheme securing food access for everyone, including internal migrants. It lets migrant workers and their families draw PDS benefits from any Fair Price Shop in the country, delivering food security through inter-state ration card portability under the National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA). A Fair Price Shop (FPS) is a public ration store licensed under Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Ration card details and entitlements can be checked online at any ePoS device nationwide, and portability covers both inter-State and intra-State (inter-district/intra-district) movement. Assam became the 36th State to roll out ONORC, meaning the scheme now runs across all 36 States/UTs, making food security portable nationwide. The government’s ‘MERA RATION’ mobile app, available in 13 languages, gives users real-time information to make the most of ONORC. Per the National Food Security Portal, more than 20 crore Ration Cards have been issued through over 4.5 lakh ePoS-enabled Fair Price Shops.
