National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities

Quick Summary: NFPwD funds M.Phil. and Ph.D. education for students with disabilities through UGC, awarding fellowships on merit and disability certification with monthly stipends running for up to five years.

About National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities

Launched by the Government of India in 2012-13, the National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities (NFPwD) opens up higher-education pathways — toward M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees — for students living with disabilities. The University Grants Commission (UGC) runs the scheme on behalf of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Financial assistance under NFPwD goes to students with disabilities pursuing M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees at any UGC-recognised university or institution, with awards decided on merit together with the student’s disability certificate.
