Mukhya Mantri Krishi Sa Sajuli Yozana – Assam
About Mukhya Mantri Krishi Sa Sajuli Yozana – Assam
Agriculture is the mainstay of Assam’s economy, with over 70% of the state’s people earning their living from it as farmers, as agricultural labourers, or as both. Yet farming in Assam suffers from stagnation, low productivity, frequent floods and little public and private investment. Small, fragmented land holdings and recurring floods keep farmers’ incomes low and make farming unprofitable in the State. Raising agricultural productivity therefore calls for financial assistance to poor farmers. For this reason, the finance minister of Assam announced help for farmers to encourage the use of scientific farm implements. So that farmers would buy and use such implements, the Department of Agriculture proposed the “Mukhya Mantri Sa Sajuli Yojana” (Chief Minister Farm Tool Scheme), launched in FY 2018-19. “Mukhya Mantri Krishi Sa Sajuli Yojana” is a State Owned Priority Development (SOPD) scheme whose chief aim is the holistic development of farmers through a number of farm mechanization measures. Through it, the government wants to raise productivity on limited land so as to meet the growing demand for farm produce and secure higher incomes for farmers. At present, very few scientific tools are used in cultivation in Assam, so the state govt. of Assam is doing all it can through the Chief Minister Farm Tool Scheme to drive the economic growth of rural farmers. The scheme proposes the following: 1. Each farmer is to receive ₹ 5000/- 2. In all, 5 lakh farmers are to benefit. 3. The money is meant for buying farm tools/farm implements. 4. Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer, through electronic transfer into beneficiaries’ accounts. 5. Beneficiaries are chosen by the District Level Committee headed by the district’s Deputy Commissioner; in BTAD and Autonomous Districts, the Principal Secretaries chair the DLC. 6. Overall supervision rests with the State-Level Monitoring Committee chaired by the Agriculture Production Commissioner.
