About Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage Assistance Scheme-1
Announced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu as a flagship scheme, “Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage Assistance Scheme-1” is carried out by the Social Welfare Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu. Brides who have studied Class 10th receive Cash Assistance of ₹ 25,000/- together with an 8-gram gold coin. Only marriages held from 17th May 2011 onwards are covered. The scheme sets out to help parents with limited means meet the cost of their daughters’ marriages.
Across most communities, custom requires the bride to wear a gold “Thirumangalyam” at the wedding, and parents hold the ceremony in keeping with their own customs and cultural backgrounds. To support these parents and to motivate them to keep their daughters in education till the right age, the Govt. of Tamil Nadu brought in Five Marriage Assistance Schemes, of which “Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage Assistance Scheme-1” is one.
