Meghalaya Sericulture & Weaving Scheme

Meghalaya
Quick Summary: Meghalaya's credit-linked sericulture and weaving scheme funds up to 75% of project costs for individuals and collectives setting up Eri and Muga silk grainages, spinning, reeling, dyeing and weaving units.

About Meghalaya Sericulture & Weaving Scheme

The Department of Textiles, under the Planning, Investment Promotion & Sustainable Development Department of the Government of Meghalaya, implements the Meghalaya Sericulture and Weaving Scheme. This credit-linked scheme offers financial help of up to 75% of the total project cost so that entrepreneurs and collectives can take up sericulture and weaving. Its main focus is Eri silk, a traditional fabric found only in Meghalaya, and it also backs Muga silk because the state’s climate suits it. The scheme seeks to grow the silk industry by helping to set up grainages that produce Disease-Free Layings (DFL), spinning or reeling and natural dyeing units, and weaving units, unlocking entrepreneurial potential and putting Meghalaya yarn and fabric on the international silk map.
