Ladli Beti Scheme

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
Jammu and Kashmir
Quick Summary: Under J&K's Ladli Beti scheme, the Government deposits ₹1,000/- per month for 14 years into a J&K Bank recurring deposit for eligible girls born on or after 01/04/2015, which later becomes a term deposit paid out at maturity.

About Ladli Beti Scheme

The Government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir implements the “Ladli Beti” scheme through Jammu and Kashmir Bank to give eligible girl children financial support over the long term. The girl’s natural or legal guardian opens a recurring deposit account, into which the Government puts ₹1,000/- per month for 14 years, provided the beneficiary is eligible and the Social Welfare Department approves. On maturity, the recurring deposit turns into a cumulative term deposit account, and the maturity amount is released once the beneficiary reaches the prescribed age and fulfils the scheme’s conditions. The scheme works as a hybrid deposit plan in two phases:

  • Phase I: A 14-year recurring deposit, completing one month after the final installment is received in the account.
  • Phase II: A 7-year Cumulative Term Deposit (CCR).

Once Phase I (recurring deposit account) matures, the account moves into Phase II (Cumulative Term Deposit account). The J&K Govt. makes the monthly contribution of ₹1000/- during Phase-I. Parents’ annual income from all sources must be below ₹75,000. The Application Form, KYC Norms of the Parent/ Guardian, and a sanction letter from the CDPO (Child Development Project Officer) are needed.
