Kanyashree Prakalpa
About Kanyashree Prakalpa
“Kanyashree Prakalpa” is a scheme of the Department of Women Development and Social Welfare and Child Development (DWD), Government of West Bengal, meant to raise the status and well-being of girls, particularly those belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged families. It uses Conditional Cash Transfers to encourage girls to stay in education longer and to discourage early marriage. > Objectives:
1. To motivate girls to remain in education for longer and to finish secondary, higher secondary, higher education, or an equivalent in technical, vocational, or sports streams, so that they stand on firmer ground economically and socially. 1. To discourage marriage before at least the age of 18, the legal age of marriage, and so lower the chances of early pregnancy, the related risks of maternal and child mortality, and other debilitating health conditions, malnutrition among them. 1. The Scheme was also designed to offer more than money: it is intended to bring adolescent girls into the financial system and to empower them. For this reason, benefits go directly into bank accounts held in the girls’ own names, and the girls themselves decide how the money is used. 1. To strengthen the gains of more schooling and later marriage, the scheme also seeks to build girls’ social power and self-esteem through a targeted behaviour change communication strategy. Beyond spreading awareness of the scheme, this strategy uses adolescent-friendly methods such as events, competitions and Kanyashree clubs, and presents strong women figures as role models to support social and psychological empowerment.

How to Apply
Offline Application
Applicants can apply for Kanyashree Prakalpa through the offline application process outlined below.
Application Portal: Open Application Portal ↗
Collect the application form from the educational institution…
Collect the application form from the educational institution in which the applicant is enrolled.
The Annual Scholarship uses the K1 form, printed on light green paper.
The One-Time Grant uses the K2 form, printed on light blue paper.
Renewal: a girl who has already received K1, is still below 18 years and meets the other conditions should contact her Head of Institution (HOI), who checks her age and unmarried status and processes the renewal.
Up-gradation: a girl who has received K1 and is now past 18 years should take a pre-printed K2 Up-gradation form from the institution, complete it and hand it in. She must not use the colored K2 form after receiving K1, because she would then be treated as a duplicate applicant.
Open a bank account in your name :
An account in the applicant's own name is essential at the time of applying, since the government transfers Kanyashree benefits DIRECTLY into it. Anyone without an account can ask the head teacher of the institution for help in opening one.
Make sure the name is spelled exactly the same way in the bank account and in the application form.
Fill up the application form :
The form is to be completed in full by the applicant or her parents. Teachers and the head teacher can help if there is any doubt. Several people have to sign the form – page 3 of the application form lists them.
Caution:
Double-check the spelling of the name entered on the form; it has to match the bank account exactly.
Give the correct mobile number, as status updates about the application will be sent to the number written on the form.
Sign the form on pages 1,2, and 3.
Keep the acknowledgement form safe to track the application later.
Provide Necessary Documents:
Attach photocopies of the documents listed in the "DOCUMENTS REQUIRED" section.
Collect Acknowledgement Receipt:
Page 3 of the Kanyashree application form carries a tear-off part headed "Acknowledgement as per WBRTPS Act 2013." On receiving the completed form, the Head Teacher fills in this part, signs and stamps it, tears it off and gives it to the applicant. Since it shows the Form No., name and other details, this slip is the proof of having applied for Kanyashree and should be kept carefully. Track Your Application: After the institution receives the full application with every supporting document, it uploads the application to the Kanyashree Portal . The application status can be checked on the portal with the Form No. printed on the Acknowledgement Slip. If a girl moves to another institution after getting the annual scholarship, her earlier Head of Institution has to transfer her Kanyashree record online to the new institution so that later applications can be processed.
